Canal Boat outings restart for 2022

The sun has reapeared, time to treat some of the kids from Andovers special schools. With the assistance of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust and Bruce Boats based at Great Bedwyn a number of day trips have been arranged in July and September. Not only do the kids have a peaceful and relaxing day out they help to steer the boat and learn how locks operate. The teachers and classroom assistants have a great time too.

Two club members with assistance from Tony and Helen Gorham ensured that the kids had a great day out.

Ukraine Emergency Appeal Saturday 5th of March.

Even collecting donations can be fun, the rotary clubs and friends were out in the town on Saturday 5th of March collecting for The Ukraine Appeal.
As always the generous people of Andover delivered, with a grand total of

£4066

being dropped into the collector's buckets.

The club is now re-established and back into it's activities. In the next few months we have plans for a motor show at the Wehill Showground and plans are being formulated for the annual Anton Duck Day, on June 5th which in 2022 will be part of the local celebrations during the Queen's Platimum Jubilee weekend.

2022 started for us on the 13th of January when we confirmed our plans for a busy and useful year supporting our local community and as always the club would welcome new members who have an interest in helping and having fun while doing it.
If you feel that Rotary membership is of interest to you please complete the 'Contact Us' form and somene will get back to you to introduce our club and invite you to one of our meetings.

The Club has made a donation of £1000 to the local branch of Riding for the disabled. The club president Richard Mason presented the cheque which will help support local riders. Andover is a major centre of special schools and in Hampshire a number of these make use of the facilities of the facilities available at the RDA riding centre. Further information on Andover Riding for the Disabled can be found on their website www.andover-rda.org.uk.

Barry is GO!

North of Andover town is an area of community forest know as Harmony Woods, this is a 12 acre section of the Diamond Wood which has been set aside to be planted by the community. The planting is led by local children who normally bring their trees to the site in late November. The CV19 pandemic stopped this happening in 2020 and an appeal was made for volunteers to help plant the remaining batches of trees. When completed approximately 10,000 trees will have been planted on the site.

Back in November 2020 the club decided to offer assistance to complete the planting, their efforts were postponed for a number of reasons but finally on Monday 15th of March a working party turned up, appropriately masked and ready tor a day of scocially distanced digging.

We planted Oak, Birch and Wild Cherry trees and look forward to going back on a regular basis to see how our ‘babies ‘ are doing.

FOODBANK Donation

Tuesday 19th July saw a group from the
club visit the Andover Foodbank to
present a cheque for £2000 to
Jenny LeLean the manager.

The club has supported the Foodbank
through the pandemic and we considered
that the current economic situation justified
the club offerring further assistance to the
people of Andover through the local
foodbank.
